The dreaded top mounts
« on: October 07, 2015, 02:35:22 PM »
Well my wee APE began showing signs of being ill again !! and I couldn't find the reason until I had enough and removed a wheel jacked it up and reached high up into the collovers and gave it a shake....movement ......not a good sign, now this has been after two separate checks from two garages who will remain nameless as I diagnosed, sourced and got fixed myself!!!!! Anyway they where completely shot !!! But all is well again and the APE is no longer torque steering like a rotty after a rabbit... food for thought to ABARTH if your reading this....don't built a car put power into it then surround it with sub standard parts it = epic failures and a loss of love for the brand.

Sadly, this appears to be a common problem.

I had to have them replaced on my old 500 after 5 years and not that many miles.

I wonder if its an issue as your cars aren't used at lot so rubber is going stiff, its one of the few things I haven't replaced despite 1000s of track miles, use in competition, off road plus commuting in it too, I have more than double your mileage :D

I've had the front top mounts changed on the Supersport once, at 5000 miles.

I had the front mounts changed twice, and the rears once on my AGP

I also had the fronts changed on my Fiat Punto Sporting

The part for the EVO has now been revised three times, but it's still a weak link.  The same part is shared with a 1.2 with 13" steel wheels - how can it be expected to last on a stiff performance car with 18" wheels?

Shame really :(

Yes I totally agree Abarth need to really look at their parts bin and think before they act, found out from a friend who had his APE broken into the door locks are not up to much either and with no alarm = epic failure.

The locks on the AGP/EVO do have a deadlock, but you need to double tap the lock button for them to activate..

I don't know if your friend does this out of habit or not?

what do you use the tighten/remove the nut holding the top mounts?

I wanted to change my springs the other day but couldn't get anything to fit along with an allen key?

Don't know if this is of any help?

http://www.allcorsa.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/change-your-front-32183.html?amp#/forumsite/21023/topics/32183?page=1

not quite the same,
on the new abarth the outer nut is 19mm, then the inside is an allen key kit.
Not sure about holding the nut still and undoing the allen key nut ?

ideally I would have thought the allen key nut should be held steady and the nut turned, however the nut is deep in the wing part, so a deep socket is needed to fit it but then cant hold the allen key nut?
If it didn't side so deep it would be easy..
