Abarth Owners Club at Silverstone Classic: 29 to 31 July 2016
« on: December 31, 2015, 09:29:59 AM »
The Silverstone Classic, taking place in 2016  from 29th to 31st July, is the largest Historic Racing event in the world, and the organisers have promised to build on the success of last year's Silver Jubilee event to make this the very best event yet. I am delighted to announce that Abarth Owners Club will be there, having been registered as one of the participating Car Clubs.

You can come along for as many of the three days (29 - 31st July 2016) as you want, and provided you book your tickets using the Abarth Owners Club booking code, take advantage of the special Car Club package, which will give you discounted tickets (a 2 for 1 deal applies), and an in-field pass which will allow you to park in the Abarth Owners Club reserved parking area, which will be in a central location (making it easy for you to return to your car during the day).

The full program of events will be announced nearer the time, but here's a taster:

Quote

Looking ahead to next summer’s Silverstone Classic, the 3-day schedule will once again bring together all of Europe’s finest historic racing grids together with some dramatic new crowd-pleasers, too

With over 20 races and over 1000 entries, the racing action will be non-stop all weekend. Friday will see a full day of qualifying from every grid, whilst Saturday and Sunday will host over 10 races each day. With races running from 20 minutes to over an hour, including the popular Twilight Race on Saturday evening, this will be your chance to see historic Formula One, sports cars, ‘Le Mans’ sports prototype, GT and touring car grids. With unrestricted  access to the pits and paddock, you will be able to get up close to all the competing cars, and doubtless spot many of the famous drivers who relish the chance to participate in this unique event.

Next summer’s extravaganza will also be celebrating 50 years since the birth of the legendary Can-Am Championship in North America in 1966 . With very few technical restrictions, these outrageous Can-Am sportscars – often boasting more than 1,000 horsepower – were among the first to sport wings, ground-effect aerodynamics and aerospace materials. Marking the anniversary, two spectacular Can-Am races are on the 2016 Silverstone Classic bill. To whet the appetite, several of these mighty motor sport monsters will be wowing visitors at the NEC. Among those already confirmed is a brace of Chevrolet V8-powered beasts from the early seventies – a 200+ mph March 717 and a 8.8-litre McLaren M8C/D.

As well as all the racing action the Silverstone Classic, there's live music on Friday and Saturday evening. Your ticket includes access to the concerts on the Friday and Saturday evenings, both of which provide a great live music experience that all the family can enjoy. Full details have yet to be announced, but last year it was Status Quo who took to the stage as the Saturday night headliner, so it's bound to be good.

With the arrival of 2016 comes another new year packed with exciting automotive anniversaries. And, as tradition now dictates, many of these key motoring milestones will be celebrated in stunning style with mouth-watering displays and eye-catching track parades at the annual Silverstone Classic. In recent years, the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit has staged record processions featuring evocative E-type Jaguars, fabulous Ferrari F40s, evergreen Porsche 911s, muscular Ford Mustangs and historic Formula One cars amongst a whole host of other glittering cavalcades.

The majority of these birthday celebrations are organised by ever-enthusiastic car clubs specially for their members, and many clubs are already revving up for new parties in July. The BMW Car Club GB is marking the opening of the original Bayerische Motoren Werke manufacturing company a century ago in 1916, the Lamborghini Club UK is honouring the 50th anniversary of the iconic Miura supercar as well as 100 years since the birth of company founder Feruccio Lamborghini while the Morgan Sports Car Club is paying tribute to the 4/4 model, which turns 80 in 2016 and remains the oldest model in the world that’s still in production today.

Along with the exotic Miura, a trio of rather more affordable British sportscars from the sixties are also turning 50 this year – the Lotus Europa plus a pair of Triumphs: the GT6 and 2-litre Vitesse. Parades for all three of these golden oldies are among those already confirmed.

The Nissan Figaro Owners Club is also busy organising a big Silverstone Classic party for 25 years of the Japanese retro car, the Viper Club of the UK will be popping the corks on its 20th birthday while the Westfield Sports Car Club will be out in force for its 30th anniversary.

Whether celebrating or not, unprecedented numbers of motoring clubs now choose to stage their main annual gathering at the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival. A record assemblage of more than 120 clubs attended in 2015, between them displaying more than 10,000 privately-owned cars over the enormous three-day extravaganza, and you could easily spend the whole weekend marvelling at the lines of rare, classic and interesting cars. Where else are you likely to see Ferrari Enzo, F50, F40 and 288 GTOs with over 50 Lamborghinis as well as historic AA vehicles, classic Bentleys from the 1930s and rare British cars that you might not even have heard of, such as the Fairthorpe Zeta and Berkeley Bandit.... quite apart from the line up of stunning Abarths that I hope we will be contributing.

“Nowhere else will you get to see so many famous and legendary marques and models all lovingly maintained and displayed by their owners,” enthused Nick Wigley, CEO of Goose Live Events, the company responsible for the Silverstone Classic. “The sheer scale of these amazing displays is a landmark feature of the Silverstone Classic – a real celebration of motoring, auto design and memorabilia.”

As if that is not enough, there will be a shopping area, fun fair, an auction and lots more. You will really struggle to see it all in a weekend, let alone a single day!

To take advantage of the Car Club package, you need to go to the event website, http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/tickets   and use our unique booking code, which is SCC16027. Please note that you will get the best prices if you book before 31st March 2016. Car Club bookings close on 31st May 2016, after which time you will only be able to buy ordinary admission tickets. Note that this event does not sell tickets on the day, so all tickets have to be bought in advance.

In 2010 and 2011 in a joint venture between Abarth UK and Abarthsti, we amassed over 50 cars at this event, and our cars generated lots of interest, but the last three years have seen a very small Abarth attendance. Truly, this is one of the very best events of the year, and you are missing out on something very special by not attending. The more cars we have attending, the more prominent a display area we will get, so let's see if we can get back to that big presence.

Although I will be receiving regular updates from the organisers as to who has booked, it would be helpful if you could append a message to this thread to say that you are coming.

We are attending on the sat & sun. Hotel booked in. Won't do b&b again as they tend to double book you in, & send you to Mrs Miggins down the road who has no idea on customer service from her private house.

Yes. Go to the event's website to see the various ticket options.

Saturday is usually the busiest day with most Car Club cars to see. The racing is good all three days.

the only problem is my dad thinks us abarth owners do weird things to each other at meets (if you get what i mean) so would be pointless in bringing him with me to this meet and being apart of the stand!!!

Not really, Paul.......... take advantage of a convenient parking place right in the middle of the track near the old pits, and then just go and watch the races, wander around the pits (they use them both at this event) and look at the 10,000 car club cars on show. You can avoid fellow Abarth owners quite easily if you want to at this event once you move away from your car!
