Retrofit 7" Infotainment System
« on: March 20, 2019, 07:15:00 PM »
Hi All
I am new here and have a quick question. I have just bought my first Abarth, it is a 2017 595 1.4 TJet, I love it but the only thing I'd like to change is to replace the 5" Infotainment with the 7" + Satnav.  Does anyone know if this possible as a retrofit?

Many thanks

Also interested in this.

Hoping it's doable like with other cars I have done Retrofits on in the past....

From some searching and scouring over images, to me it looks like wiring plugs should be the same between the 5" & 7" with the exception of the 7" having an additional input port which I assume is for the GPS connection.

Guess it's the security coding to ensure that the car accepts a new screen which could be the sticking point, and also maybe having to update software to ensure the Abarth loading screen shows if the screen came from a 500

I think it's been done, you need the full details of the donor vehicle but beyond that I know nothing much. It's been discussed a lot, to be honest whilst the 7 inch is better if you have a 5 inch one I don't think it's worth the effort. Rather do what I do get a brodit pillar mount and fix on that a suitable mount for your phone, for convenience I find magnetic ones are best. Run charging cable around the centre console then behind the dash over top of steering to the phone. Use a decent phone 6inch plus display and off you go! You can voice control with Google or Alexa phone is placed in a much safer place than trying to control via the centre screen which is very distracting. Forget uconnect if you want music or internet radio run it through apps on the phone. You can get apps that will get the phone to automatically run the app of your choice when the phone connects you can also run android auto on the phone screen (if android)
Decent phones run as smooth as a hot knife through butter, the fiat system is, shall we say, clunky. My phone screen is nearly 6.5 inch so in reality not much to choose against 7inch

Since the 7 can have carplay, then it would be useful, well to me  ;D

If anyone has managed it, then it would be great to hear how
