Abarth Day - MIND, Milan - 5 and 6th October 2019
« on: August 09, 2019, 01:31:19 PM »
As you should already have picked up, there is a single Abarth Day in 2019, covering the whole of Europe with one massive event. It takes place over 2 days, 5 and 6th October, at the MIND District in Milan, which is where the EXPO 2015 was held. This is located to the north west of the city, easily accessible from the autostrada and a short journey from Milan Malpensa Airport. We are arranging a trip for those who wish to drive over, and there will be separate threads about this as the plans solidify. This thread is solely about what happens in Milan itself.

Further details of exactly what to expect will be announced in the coming weeks, but you can expect the same sort of attractions as so engaged you at the UK Abarth Days of the last three years.

Tickets are now on sale and you can purchase your by going here: www.abarthday.com Note that you can only buy 2-day tickets, it is not possible to purchase them for just one of the days. There are three different types of ticket. for "Driver", "Visitor" and "Guest", and there are discounted rates available for Scorpionship Members and an even lower rate for Club Members who are in a Scorpionship-affiliated Club such as AOC. You need to quote the AOC Code which is VL8KSQU3

If you buy a Driver ticket, which will allow you to take you car on the track area, you are kindly requested to bring your own helmet. Everyone who buys a Diver ticket will get an email in September asking them to select their track time (one slot per day). It will not be possible to do this on the day.

Further update on Abarth Day.

I've been advised that access to the MIND site for Club Cars is through Cargo 11 entrance on the Via Cristina Belgioioso, 20157 Baranzate MI .
We've been told that cars can be left on site overnight on Saturday, if desired, and there will be site security in place. There will be shuttles between MIND and many hotels and other sites in Milan.

Although it is very late notice, and I apologise now for anyone who made their own arrangements well in advance, but I've just been told that there will be a deal with HERTZ  in place at Milano Malpensa and Bergamo Orio al Serio Airports. The discount rate will be valid to rent Abarth (for people >30 years of age and, in case of unavailability, you will be able to rent other FCA cars. I don't have the code yet, and I do wonder if this means that all Abarths will be allocated to people making this reservation rather than ones already made. More news on his when I get it.

As well as the automotive activities during the weekend, there will also be both basketball and a soccer cage tournament. I will post the details of these in the Group Chat about the event, in case anyone is interested, You can sign up on the day, though they would appreciate interested parties signing up at abarth@streetsoccercage.it by 1/10 to help planning the timing.

And now a few logistics and reminders.

Please make sure you bring the following documentation with you:

Passport
Driving Licence
V5 or letter of authority to take the car out of the UK
Green Card Insurance Cover
European Breakdown Cover is highly recommended (up to you, but I would go for coverage which will repatriate the car should the worst happen - ask Joe Miller what happened when he went to Poland last year!)
If you have pre-ordered them, the Swiss motorway vignette and the French Emovi toll tag

You also need the following items:

GB sticker, (or a GB symbol on the side of your number plate)
Hi-Viz jackets for all occupants - which should accessible from inside the car
Warning Triangle
Headlamp deflectors
There is much confusion about the need or not for 2 x Breathalyser testers in France - the official position would seem to be that they are not mandatory

Be aware that the use of radar detectors is illegal in France, with fines up to €1500 and the law also prohibits the use of hands-free and bluetooth devices for the driver. French police are very interested in British plated cars especially near the Channel ports and can issue on the spot fines, which you are expected to settle before you can continue your journey. There are roadside cameras in all three counties. The Swiss ones are not always easy to spot and the tolerance on them is minimal (a couple of km/h is all you will get away with).

Credit cards are widely accepted in all three countries, so it is up to you how much cash you bring in Euros and Swiss Francs
