Hello & Buying Advice
« on: October 29, 2019, 12:31:32 PM »
Hello,

Sorry I know it's probably already been covered on the forum somewhere before but I'm looking at buying a wee Abarth 500/595. Found one in particular at a decent price 4250 / 10 plate / relatively high mileage at 77K

However it apparently has been remapped to 250bhp, I don't know enough about the platform but is that even a realistic number without crazy modifications ?

Guy who's selling it got it in a part exchange for a Range rover, he doesn't use it, MOT history follows that story, he's away trying to find if the previous owner gave him the remap sheet.

What is the common issues to look for too ?

Thanks for the help in advance :)

To get that kind of output at least the turbo & injectors would have had to be replaced with higher output items maybe also the airbox, intercooler & exhaust

Hopefully someone on here can confirm?

Thanks for the reply CJ, went and seen it he can't find the remap sheet so I think somebody is telling porkies ! Hahah it does have an aftermarket induction kit and exhaust, obviously can't tell if injectors have been changed and I don't know the specs on the stock turbos to see if it was changed but it looked pretty tiny to me !

Nice wee car though ! Still felt right for 77k

Yep for 250bhp the turbo would not be little like the IHI mine and at 72k this little go-cart still keeps me smiling. You may have the Garrett turbo (slightly larger than IHI) which would give you closer to 200bhp with a remap

Enjoy! Stay safe

Thanks CJ, you're right it is the IHI turbo so definitely not 250bhp ! Haha,

It does have a Monza exhaust and ramair induction

Is 3800 a good deal for a ten plate with 77k on the clock and no known service history ?

Yep that little IHI with induction kit & a good remap could get you up to 170-180bhp. But i have heard of a Hybrid IHI setup with larger intercooler, intake, 200 cel cat & larger bore exhaust system + remap - 200bhp is possible but not 250 :o

3,800 I think its a fair price, mine is 72,901k and i've fiddled with it constantly and has given me no problems whatsoever. Doesn't need a specialist to service, I have serviced it myself every 6,000 miles with oil & filter change, brake fluid changed every year, spark plugs yearly also. I only have the first 2 years service history.  :-\
